if poor people could not afford Health insurance before?

Can anyone tell me how they will be able to afford it now that it is mandatory? If they don't get some health insurance they will get a a bill from the IRS/fine and will be forced to pay that way either way they pay for it. if not please have your facts how did you find that information

Health insurance isn't mandatory NOW, contrary to what some may say; the penalty fees will only start in 2014. The only reason I think people would get in trouble with the government itself is if they FAIL to pay those fees. HR 3590 has lots of ways to protect those who don't make that much money. In 2014, Medicaid will be extensively expanded. If adults (with or without children) doesn't exceed 133% of the federal poverty level according to the poverty guidelines that are put into place at the time, they will be eligible, for example. And if you earn too much to be eligible for the Medicaid, you may be eligible for government subsidies to help you pay for exchanges starting in 2014. Premium subsidies will be available for individuals and families with incomes between 133% and 400% of the poverty level, and the subsidies will be based on a sliding scale. For example, a family of four earning 150% of the poverty level will have to pay 4% of its income on premiums. A family with income of 400%of the poverty level will have to pay 9.5 percent. These are only a few of the ways, but I suggest getting the actual information from the bill itself.
