Please tell me why or soliders do not make enough money to provide for they're families and health insurance?

I work in a hospital and there are many patients that state they are in the military or the parent is in away in the war, but they are on medicaid or some kind of state aid. How can this be? Someone tell me that the people that are keeping our country safe and free isn't making enough money to take care of their families.
--------------------
Because they must be National Guard and do not understand their benefits. While on active duty (Regular Army, Reserve, or National Guard) their families have Tricare. All active duty military has health insurance for their families. If they did not enroll their family, then that is the service member's problem because they did not do the pre-deployment processing correctly or if they are unaware it is a chain of command issue. If they are reserves or guard not activated, then they do not have it. If you have another family that comes in and claims that, ask them about Tricare and if they don't know, call Tricare.
