Do you chose not to have health insurance and why?

I mean the people who could pay for health insurance but chose not to. Do you have a reason or a backup plan? Im seriously considering not paying for it, I pay $180/month for employer provided health insurance. That's more than $2000 a year less in my pocket if I don't visit the doctor once.

At least in America right now you have the right to choose the amount of risk you want to take. That being said taking all the risk yourself is pretty ridiculous unless you're on Welfare as one of the previous answerers is. And, yes you'll spend $2,000 a year if you don't visit the doctor once, but what if you visit the hospital once and it's $250,000. That's 125 years worth of premiums. If you want to take added risk then just get a higher deductible. I have clients that have $40/month premiums because they're willing to take more risk. Also, most importantly consider getting coverage on your own as you hopefully know that employer provided coverage costs twice the price of individual plans. And, if your employer isn't picking up at least half the cost then it probably doesn't make sense to get....unless you're not healthy and have no choice.
