My employers Health insurance company cancelled our policy for non payment?

It was cancelled on Aug 1st, we were told about it around the 15th. They told us they were working on getting it re installed. I heard today that the insurance company was not going to re install our policy and that we should start looking to get our own health insurance. My question is: Will it effect me that I have not had insurance for the past three weeks.

Maintaining continuous coverage is the key to avoiding problems. And in order for coverage to be continuous, there cannot be a lapse in coverage of more than 63 days. This 63-day rule applies to people who are leaving a group health plan, usually obtained through work. Once an individual leaves the plan, they have 63 days to find new coverage. If they have a lapse in coverage of more than 63 days, then their coverage is not continuous and their new plan can exclude coverage for their preexisting condition.
