I know that some places make sure you have lived together for a period of time, but are there other ways that you can show that they are your partner for the benefits/insurance?

To get my partner and our children on my insurance we had to provide the insurance company with a copy of our mortgage, and joint bank accounts,and copies of birth certificates for our children as well as have a signed and notarized affidavit that was provided by the insurance company. L
