My wife and I were turned down for coverage following a procedure that was not considered to be done for a life-saving reason. However, not doing the procedure WOULD have had major implications resulting in a more invasive surgery with subsequent ones to follow. This description is somewhat vague, but it is also personal. Have the doctor write a letter. This has greatly helped me in the past. If this fails, you can always contact the Insurance Commissioner...they REALLY hate to hear from them and it usually gets resolved.
