Health insurance eligible in college if student has a pre existing condition?

At a university when your required to have health insurance to attend the school what if you have a pre-existing condition ? Health insurance is given manditorilly, or atleast required, so would the health insurance even be given to a student with a pre existing condition ?
--------------------
If it is a group policy (i.e. your school or employer negitiates with the ins company for the coverage), then you can't be denied for a pre-existing condition. They can, however, require a waiting period like 6 months. In grad school I had a friend who was a transplant patient in HS. She was covered in the school policy and when she graduated she was covered on her new employer's policy without problem. My mom has a pre-existing condition and when my dad changed jobs they had to buy COBRA (paying to stay on previous employer's plan) for a 6 month waiting period. After the 6 months were up they were excepted without problem. Denial is only an issue when you are buying an individual plan.

Can I extend my health insurance to cover my parents and/or sister?

I am a 21 year old federal employee and I have Aetna PPO health insurance at the moment. I want to be able to cover my parents (ages 59 and 50) and my younger sister (age 16) because they don't have health insurance of their own. Are there any plans out there that would allow this? Please let me know even if they are ridiculously expensive. Thanks!
--------------------
Unfortunately not. You can only insure your spouse and dependents. However, there is a company that can provide your parents and sister with health and dental care for a very inexpensive monthly payment. It is month to month so they can cancel whenever they want. It can save you thousands! Check them out below. Your parents are lucky to have such a concerned child! Good luck!

What is a good reputable Insurance Company for Health Insurance?

I need health Insurance and I want to get quotes.
--------------------
What do you consider "affordable"? Contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area. The agent can work with you to find the best plan for your situation and budget. They can explain what you get and, more importantly, what you don't get with the "affordable" policies. There is no charge to talk with an agent. Be aware that with health insurance you get what you pay for. The budget plans will have many exclusions and restrictions.

How can i handle my hospital bill without health insurance?

Hi, Everybody! I'm college student, i work part-time and make around $500 per month. I just got appendix surgery at Northridge Hospital in CA, unfortunately i didn't have health insurance. I estimated my bill will be around $15,000. Does anyone know any Charity Organizations which help poor students with their hospital bill? Thank you for your help and patience for responding my answer.
--------------------
I recently had an air conditioner fall on my foot. I called around first to try and get ANY hospital to give me some kind of estimate as to what they think I might be paying for the visit, only to have every single one tell me they had no idea. To me, this itself should be against the law. After going to the emergency room and having it x-rayed and the whole nine yards, their response was "We're not sure if its broken, but go talk to this other doctor on Monday, spend some more money and still maybe not have an answer". For this, they wanted $1,500. Do us all a favor, don't pay them a dime. Let them succumb to the forces of a free market and force them to charge somewhat reasonable fees. As it stands, they give insurance companies 60-80% discounts on just about everything, and charges the uninsured 100% rip-off rates. They cannot force you to pay, they can only report it on your credit. Also, it is worth noting that after 7 years, it will fall off your credit history.

How can I add my husband to my health insurance? He is an immigrant with no social security number yet?

We have not filed our paperwork with the USCIS but will be doing so soon as we are trying to get all of our documentation together. Will it be possible to add my husband to my health insurance right now?? I am employed by city government and I wonder how will I get my husband on my plan as he hasn't received his social security # yet. Thanks. BTW, my husband entered this country legally but overstayed his visa. I am applying for an adjustment of status for him.
--------------------
The health insurance company doesn't necessarily need an SSN to be able to add him on to your insurance. You can ask them and simply let them know that you just got married and still in the process of doing the paperwork. Also, just to correct what has been mentioned above, he will not be denied merely because of the overstay. The Immigration and Nationality Act clearly states this.

How can I make myself able, to accept health insurance payments from Massage Clients?

I am a licensed Massage Therapist that is Mobile. I was wondering how can I accept Health Insurance as a payment for a massage from my patients/clients?
--------------------
There are textbooks created to help understand how to properly set up your practice to accept insurance payments. The three main categories you need to determine are 1. Motor Vehicle personal injury 2. Workers Compensation injury 3. Major Medical Health Plans/Insurance The first is the best coverage, the second is good coverage and the third is cumbersome. Medicare/Medicaid are a waste of time, unless you are in a medical office that does the billing for you. Your question addresses the third category. Depending on the state you are in and/or the insurance company that is offering benefits, it may be worth the extra time and effort to accept these plans for billing. The following site leads to a book that is adequate for understanding most of what is needed to set up and begin accepting insurance. Give yourself 3-6 months of study and development of necessary forms before taking on your first Health plan patient. In any of these cases, the patient will need the following before insurance will even consider payment: 1. Physician's Referral/prescription (MD, DC, DO) 2. Medical necessity 3. Plan: number of sessions, duration, frequency, goals 4. NPI number & completed CMS-1500 form for billing This book will teach you all about how to set up insurance billing in your practice. There are others out there, but this is very informative for the price. It is possible to develop a medical massage practice going to people's homes, but it will take some time to develop it. http://shop.manualtherapyoffice.com/prod…

How can I treat an ear infection without health insurance?

I have no health insurance and cannot take my son to a dr and do not have money to pay a huge ER bill. He has a nasty ear infection. What can I do to treat it so no damage is caused? He is 18 months old.
--------------------
You can't cure an infection at home. Can you get state health insurance for your son? He's going to need a prescription to get rid of it. But until you get in give him Tylenol and try some OTC drops or warm oil. Warm compresses are nice too...try throwing his blanket in the dryer and laying him down with that ear on the blanket. Best Wishes...and good luck! Oh avoid Milk!!!

Are you satisfied with what your health insurance covers?

We have health insurance and drug coverage, but the co-pays and what they don't cover is ridiculous. We pay over $1200 per year for prescriptions and that is the co-pays. Several of us have allergies and need treatment, but our insurance does not cover allergy treatment. We have dental, but they pay almost nothing for TMJ, so I can't get treatment.
--------------------
If you are unhappy with what your plan covers you may want to look into getting a different plan. There are many different plans available with drastically different coverage. Even if you are on a group plan you do not have to take that plan; you can get your own plan and drop the group coverage during open enrollment. For me, I purchased the plan with the coverage I wanted so yes, I am satisfied with what my health insurance covers.

Most cities and towns have a clinic where those without insurance are provided with medical help. Planned Parenthood has a services locator as well as a myriad of information on different types of birth control here: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-… Take a look at it. Hopefully you'll find a place nearby that you'll be able to utilize!

Why should I have health insurance in Australia?

I've just bought ambulance cover and now I'm considering health insurance. But what are the pros and cons of buying health insurance? Doesn't medicare cover most things?
--------------------
I have ambulance cover from medibank. I pay my Medicare levy only and when I got pancreitis was in Royal Perth 5 weeks, paid nothing extra except fot TV/phone/radio. The doctors, nurses were gr8. The main draw back I can see by not having private health insurance:- choice of doctor, long wait for elective surgery. Trust this helps with your decision

whats a really good health insurance for college students?

I was wondering what is a good health insurance company to get a plan with. Im a college student and im in nursing school so they want us to have health insurance in case we get hurt or exposed to anything at any of the hospitals we work at. Im not required to have it but i would like to look around and see if there is a good plan that I could afford. So in case something like that would happen i wont be paying for the required treatment completely out of my pocket. Thanks for the help.
--------------------
If you are in college, you may want to check out health insurance programs that are written through your school. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be affordable for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. You might also be interested in joining the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA), a national organization for nursing students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable.

Do you know of affordable health insurance for an individual?

I'm 33 and I really need health insurance. The insurance where my husband works has an outrageous premium. If anyone knows of good health insurance with dental, please let me know. I would appreciate it very much!
--------------------
When you think about it, how could medical insurance run by a corporation ever be affordable? The goal of a corporation is to maximize profit. Their loyalty is not to the customer, but to the shareholders. They pay only enough lip service to customers to keep them making payments, and are aggressive in looking for that spot. From a corporate standpoint - with their fiduciary obligation to the shareholders in mind - medical insurance MUST provide the least possible service for the most money. How anyone could think that this makes sense or shouldn't be reformed is way beyond me. I realize that I haven't answered your question, but I just had to vent a little.

What's the procedure on changing health insurance companies?

I have health insurance but want to change to get onto my husband's insurance (military) and cancel the plan I have now. Should I let the insurances overlap (apply for one while I still have the other) or should I cancel my current one before I sign up for my husband's?
--------------------
I would be safe and let them overlap. I do Medical ins. billing and you would be caught off balance if you did not overlap them. Very few people really know what all the ins. co. make it hard to coordinate policies (they make money). It is going to be to the advantage of yourself to have double coverage. Once you have a Ins. card in your hand from the Military (champus Ins?) or a letter of confirmation, then canc. your primary. I hope this helps...

Why do NeoDems support Obama's Health Insurance Law, is it devotion to him or appreciation to Insurance Exects?

It is so clear that only one entity will profit from Health Insurance Law. That is upper management ie. Executives, in the Insurance Industry.
--------------------
Well Keep in mind, the call center in Banglaore will benefit. That is where all medical decisions will be made. Just think. The same person that cannot fix your PC is now making medical decisions for you!!!

How can I get health insurance without having any income?

I am 19 yrs old and i'm having a hard time finding a job in my area. I'm trying to save up for a car so im doing some babysitting until i get an actual job, but i'm having some health issues and i have no insurance, what can i do?
--------------------
Well, health insurance IS GOING to cost about $200 a month. That's just what it costs. You can get a major medical policy for about half that, but it will have a really big deductible, like $4,000, before it kicks in. Besides that, there's Medicaid - and your income normally has to be under $700 a month, and you can't be a dependent of your parents, or THEIR income has to be pretty low, also.

Can my mom be covered under my health insurance?

My mom works isn't provided any health insurance by her employer. If I get a job which provides health insurance, can she be covered under mine, granted that we are living under the same roof?
--------------------
Generally, no. Most health insurance from jobs covers only (1) the employee, (2) the employee's children, and (3) the employee's husband or wife. In some cases, children of the husband or wife (stepchildren of the employee) are covered. Other relatives, such as the employees mother, father, grandchildren, brother, sister, cousin, aunt, uncle, etc., are usually not covered.

Do you think your health insurance rates should be linked to how much money you make?

How is that fair? Why should a guy that makes $100k have to pay more for health insurance than a guy that makes $50k?
--------------------
2.2 percent profit is too much. I am for a single payer system. "I happen to be a proponent of single payer or universal health care coverage. That's what I'd like to see." - 2003 "My committment is to make sure that we have universal health care for all americans by the end of my first term as president...I would hope that we set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to assess a federal system, or a state pool of some sort. But I don't think that we are going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately, there's gonna be poptentially some transition process I can envision a decade out or 15 years out or 20 years out." - March 2007 "If I were designing a system from scratch, I would probably go ahead with a single-payer system," said then-Senator Obama. "I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its gross national product on health care, cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody." - Aug 2008. "The public option is not your enemy, it is your friend." - June 2009 "I have not said that I am a supporter of a single-payer system," - August 2009 "Nobody is talking about some government takeover of health care." - August 2009

Will the health insurance lobby quit giving to Senators and Representatives?

Did the Health Insurance lobby give an ultimatum to Senators and Representative they gave to stop health care reform? Did they say stop reform or we will no longer contribute?
--------------------
You really never thought about the issues - did you? The money to pay for treatment of pre-existing conditions and the abuses that we are going to see in health insurance has to come from increases to the premoims charged to people with health insurance. So now, that formerly uninsurable drug addict is going to wind up on the same health plan as my family. Since his medical costs are going to be greatly in excess of mine and we will all be charged the same premium - I will see my rates rise to cover the costs of his care. Then a _really_ nasty thing happens. The increases in premiums forced on the 80% of the population who currently have health insurance is going to push them into the price range of the 'cadallac plans' - and they will then have to pay an additional; 30% tax. Now you also have to add the costs ot the taxes on health insurance companies and on medical products and hardware. This is going to increase the costs of running a doctor's office, hospitals and medical insurance companies - costs which will be passed on the to consumer in the form of higher prices. Did the liberals just create 'healthcare for all' or did they create a situation where people will be simply unable to afford quality health insurance?

How can you get health insurance for child you have temporary custody for?

I am wondering if there is a way to get health insurance for my niece if she comes to live with me for a year? She's 11 years old. Her parents live in CA, she might come to live with us in FL for one year....I wouldn't be her Legal Guardian because we cannot go to court in CA, plus it's only for one year...
--------------------
Ask your niece's parents if their daughter is covered by their health insurance. If they have health insurance for your niece, then you'll need a copy of her insurance information anyway to present to the ER or doctor's office. Whether they have insurance or not, ask them how they want you to handle the situation should your niece suddenly need unexpected medical care. Do they have backup phone no.'s they can give you in case of an emergency? Because the ER, first and foremost, is going to want to have a signed permission slip from one of her parents before they treat your niece at all (with the exception of a life-or-death emergency).
