Individual health insurance for a couple with one healthy teen--high-deductible or low-deductible?

I quit my job and I can continue with a decent health insurance plan for my family under COBRA, or I can switch to an individual plan. Being over 50, my wife is supposed to have over $500 of routine tests in a year, otherwise she's pretty healthy. My son and I are in pretty good health. Any payments we make would be deducted from my wife's salary before taxes. Our marginal income tax rate, including state tax, is about 19%. Would we be better off with low deductible and high premiums or the reverse? The COBRA plan is fairly low deductible and high premiums.
--------------------
Since u are healthy you should consider getting off COBRA ASAP. An individual/family plan should be almost half the cost of the COBRA.By keeping COBRA you run the risk of developing a medical problem that will make you ineligible for a individual/family health plan later on. When the COBRA time period ends you will be in trouble. Get off of it now. Most plans I sell are now $1,000 ded or $2,500 ded. Run the quotes and see what premiums make sense to you. You will have to pay this premium yourself and your company cannot deduct it pre-tax anymore but if you want a GREAT tax deduction look at an HSA plan. Look at the $5,450 family deductible plan and you can make a yearly contribution of this amount to your HSA and get a top-line tax ded on your IRS 1040 (line 28). The monies can then be used for qualified medical expenses subsidized, in effect, by the tax savings.

Can Lipo Be used as a health concern with Health Insurance?

Since Excess Fat arond the mid-section is a Health Concern, and it is so hard to get rid of when we get older, could its process be turned into the insurance company as a wellness procedure.? SO many of us are eating properly and exercising, but the ole tire or pouch just won't go away..So if a minor procedure just around the mid-section was done and not and entire body makeover was performed,, maybe this would be something new..I dunno.... thats why I'm asking..
--------------------
You can ask your insurance company under what circumstances lipo would be covered. It usually has to cause serious problems. Rashes and such.

How can I get health insurance if I don't have a job?

I'm not filing for unemployment, but I have recently graduated college, am off my parents insurance, and am struggling to find a job with these benefits. I have a few very minor medical issues, but I really need insurance. I've heard you can buy it independently through some companies, but I have no idea how to go about it. Can anyone explain how this works and where I can go to get insurance? Thank you!

EhealthInsurance.com or CinergyHealth.com or www.nahur.org best to have it through your job if possible.

I have does health insurance cover counseling services? I have United Health care?

I am looking for a counselor in seattle but i don't want to pay around $80 per session, do counselors take insurance? I have United, and if so, how do i find some that do? I looked on the united healthcare website but couldnt find anything
--------------------
I used to pay medical and dental claims for insurance companies so I can answer this with background knowledge, even though it's been awhile. Most all insurance companies pay for mental health care when the provider is a psychiatrist. However, if your preference is a counselor you usually have to get a referral from your family doctor or a psychiatrist for the insurance co to pay. If United has a list of providers that they want you to choose from, they will pay better benefits if you use one of them. If you don't choose a preferred provider with United, they will usually pay very little or nothing at all. I would have to look at your benefit booklet to answer this question more directly. If you cannot find a provider on their website you can call United toll free and ask an agent if your provider is covered. I hope this isn't too confusing. Insurance is one of the hardest things to explain to people. If you need further info or if you are confused with something I said, feel free to email me. good luck

So, what does an American, who has had abdominal pain for months, does not have health insurance, can't afford?

a doctor and is worried that they might have cancer, do? The pain comes, a dull ache, but sickly, lasts about a week, then goes away for awhile, only to return and there are like granules under the area that hurts.

same question/same answer a clinic

my friend doesnt have health insurance. And he has a hernia, like how much will they charge him?

And where can he go to get a checkup?
--------------------
Your friend could go to a walk in clinic for a check up. Most clinics charge $60 for the visit. Then xrays are extra and any lab work. Then there will be medicine cost. If surgery is needed your looking at around $10,000. You can contact the manufacturer of the medicine to get the med at a lower cost. Alot of hospitals require 10% down on hospital procedures. But that is normally if you have insurance so you are looking at probably 50% down without insurance.
