If someone finds out they have leukemia and they don't have health insurance, how could they get treatment?

I'm writing a screenplay and one of the characters is this kid has leukemia and he doesn't have health insurance. How would he go about paying for a bone marrow biopsy to be diagnosed? What are the costs? Could he still get insurance? Could he get treatment without insurance? What are the costs?
