Health Insurance?

My father passed away last week. My mother and sister(under 18) lost their health care coverage the day he died. Where do they go from here? Mom is 60 and has never worked???
--------------------
I'm assuming that your mother and sister were covered under your fathers insurance from his employer. The employer should be sending your Mom a COBRA letter. She should be able to continue her coverage under the old insurance. However, COBRA coverage can be expensive. She might be better off to look for other options. It would at least give her some time to figure out what her best choices are. If she has not received a COBRA letter, she needs to call your Dads employer HR department and talk to them. COBRA coverage will allow her to keep the same insurance for at least 18 months. She will have to pay the whole premium though.

Health insurance?

A while ago I received an answer about health care in the future. In the answer, the person said that "health care should be an individual's responsibility." Personally, I would gladly give up social security to have a nice health insurance program when I become old and gray. Here's why. Recently, my wife had to have some minor outpatient surgery. By the time it was all done, the bills totaled $5500 (and this was minor). Fortunately, we have good insurance and we had only about $400 out of pocket. But, in the future, the percentage increase in health care far outpaces inflation. So, I estimate the same thing to cost about $35000. Most companies do not provide their employees with endless health insurance. This type of cost would certainly jack up insurance costs and out of pocket. How in the world does one plan for this kind of expense? Any opinions about this?
--------------------
Most people don't plan for this. Which is a shame. Not very many people have savings for a rainy day. But that's what you have to have. Medicare is the current plan for the over 65 set, for health insurance. It's mostly paid for by the working taxpayer.

My fiance has medical covered at his job, but i am always afraid that he might lose it, or that we won't have medical when we need it. I'm not on his medical yet, but as soon as we get married i will be. Would it be wise for me to get health insurance from an insurance company until we get married? should i keep it after i get married also? what exactly is the purpose of it?
--------------------
I would get the coverage and keep it. It does not hurt to have 2 policies going just in case.

What is a good website to get health and dental insurance, and what are good plans for me and my wife
--------------------
There are several websites to get you a ballpark figure and information about many different policies. However, do not try to do this over the internet. It'll take you many days of solid research to intelligently compare the hundreds of plans available. Also, if you have any pre-existing conditions that might add a rider to the policy, cause you to be declined, or if you are out of the height and weight guidelines you won't know until you've applied and gone through the underwriting process. Also, applying over the internet is a good way to get scammed. Call or visit a local independent agent that works with all the major companies in your area. Not all companies are available in all states and plans with the same company can vary across state lines. The agent can work with you to find the best policy for your situation and budget. The plans and premiums are no different if you use an agent.

An employer that offers health insurance to full time employees: Can the employer deny you coverage for any reason at all if your a full time employee?
--------------------
No, they can't deny you coverage. --and yes, that's how your insurance would work, if one covers a percentage the other policy should pick it up....just one thing, your policy from your job, would be the primary insurance when you go to the dr...meaning that the dr is going to use your insurance first, then your husbands. If you want to put your husband on your policy, then it would be the opposite when he goes, his policy would be the primary, and then your policy the secondary. They are always going to bill the primary first, then the secondary.
